The 'North Barn' Sept 2009

28th Feb 2010 :-(
Ok another 2 weeks passed by without any blog entries...perhaps this wasn't such a good idea afterall... :D
Then during the night of 27/28th Feb "Tempete Xynthia" made its way up from the South West hitting La Rochelle, The Vendee and Charente Maritime the worst with approx 55 people killed, widespread damage caused first by the storm and then by high tides flooding the countryside leaving thousands without homes, electricity etc.
Even up here in the Indre-et-Loire, Centre with winds of 120kmph many buildings were affected. Everything from a couple of broken/slipped tiles to houses losing their whole roof, 40 foot plus tall trees, and lamp posts, fences etc. came crashing down. We were without electricity for over four days and sadly lost the roof on our barn and the large hangar attached to it.
So the story starts again with photo's of what greeted us at 8am on Sunday 28th Feb 2010 after a night when the four of us passed the night in complete darkness listening to the wind crashing things around us...secretly expecting the roof over our heads to take off!

We were lucky, the buildings we have already renovated (those which are booked up this summer and we rely on for our income :S) were all relatively untouched, just a few slipped tiles.
